Oddity2 is a highly acclaimed virtual synthesizer software plugin developed by GForce Software, designed as a meticulous digital evolution and emulation of the legendary ARP Odyssey analog hardware synthesizer.
Music producers and synth enthusiasts frequently refer to Oddity2 as a “stellar evolution” because it preserves the raw, aggressive sonic character of the 1970s hardware while introducing massive modern enhancements. Key Evolutionary Features
Oddity2 expands heavily on the limitations of the original vintage hardware:
Polyphonic & Legato Modes: The original ARP Odyssey was strictly monophonic or duophonic. Oddity2 introduces a full Polyphonic Mode, allowing musicians to play massive, lush chords using distinct Odyssey textures.
Three Classic Filter Emulations: During its production run, the original hardware featured three distinct filter revisions (including a controversial one famously “borrowed” from Moog). Oddity2 lets you switch seamlessly between all three filter modes (MKI, MKII, and MKIII) within a single interface.
Vast Modulation (XLFO & XADSR): While the hardware only possessed a single, limited LFO, Oddity2 introduces sub-panels that allow you to assign an independent XLFO and XADSR to virtually every single slider on the instrument. Activating modulation causes the respective slider to glow blue.
Additional Sub-Oscillator: It incorporates an extra sub-oscillator and a third oscillator option to generate deeper, punchier bass and richer, evolving soundscapes compared to the hardware.
Patch Morphing: Users can smoothly “tween” or morph between two different sound presets over a custom duration of seconds or musical beats, creating highly complex, evolving textures. Interface & Presets
The plugin visualizes its controls using an orange-and-black layout inspired by the MKIII Odyssey. It features GForce’s signature “flying sliders” and comes loaded with an extensive library of over 1,000 categorized patches ranging from screaming punk leads to wide stereo pads.
(Note: If you are looking for Oddity, the independent JRPG video game that was originally developed as the fan project Mother 4, that is a separate project that has faced an extended, quiet development history).
