An Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC), commonly known simply as “Hotshots,” is an elite, highly trained team of 20 to 30 wildland firefighters who specialize in responding to the most complex, high-priority wildfires across the United States and internationally. Operating as Type 1 handcrews, they are considered the “special forces” of wildland firefighting, routinely assigned to the most hazardous, rugged, and remote sectors of an active fire perimeter.
